JPEG Imager Editor's Review
JPEG Imager is a great application for compressing and optimizing images. It supports batch operations, but it also allows you to process images one at a time. The main thing I like about this application is the fact that it allows you to preview the results in realtime. I think this application is suited for anyone who needs to correct, enhance, or compress photos.
The user interface is very nicely designed. After you open a picture, you can navigate through all the images in the current directory by simply pressing the next/previous button. The program supports zooming in and out by using the mouse wheel. Both the original and the preview image are automatically updated when you zoom. You should also know that the program can acquire images directly from a twain source such as your scanner.
A lot of image effects can be applied, including grayscale, negative, sharpen, blur, emboss, and so on. It's possible to rotate or flip the image. Also, you can adjust the gamma/brightness/contrast levels, the color balance, or the hue.
Pluses: As I said, the application supports batch operations. You can add multiple pictures and resize, rotate, flip, or compress them with just a single click. The program can also create thumbnails and generate filenames automatically.
Drawbacks / flaws: I don't understand why the "Enable MMX/SSE2 optimizations" checkbox is disabled by default in the program's preferences dialog.
In conclusion: JPEG Imager is a great application that gets my full approval.
